To start this lesson, I read the class the book “The Ugly Pumpkin”.
After reading this story, we completed a whole group chart about adjective that described our squashy friend at the beginning and end of our story.
The green words describe the ugly pumpkin at the beginning, and the black words describe the ugly pumpkin at the end. They were so creative coming up with describing words!
Because the story ended on a positive note, and because we wanted the Ugly Pumpkin to be proud of who he was, the kiddos completed a similar graphic organizer using only positive adjectives. We followed that up with a little craftivity that turned out suuuuuuuper cute!!
Since I always embrace my student’s artistic abilities, I couldn’t help but love the flexible version of the Ugly Pumpkin =)
And I couldn’t resist taking some pics of my cuties… they didn’t mind posing either =)
After talking so much about Squash, I gave them the opportunity to try the squash!
This was so funny to watch!! I think their faces say it all!
After tasting the squash, we took a class vote and recorded our data on “likes” and “dislikes”!
