Today was our first day back from Christmas break, and we put our investigative minds to work!! Before we could start our activity, we discussed what it meant when asked to make an inference while reading.
After some great practice inferring information from text and pictures, we made an anchor chart of some things we would like to do on a “snowy day”.
Check out the “Hide- and- snow- seek”. How creative is that!!?
After discussing all of the possibilities of what we could do on a snow day, the students were given the following information:
Dear Inference Investigators,
Remember to use your best investigative skills by INFERRING what Tim and Grandma Sue may have done on their snow day based on the evidence you find. Make sure you discuss your answers with your group members! All ideas are welcome.
Thanks for your help.
Sincerely
Tim’s Mom
Each group was given a case file with 4 pieces of evidence inside. They had to work together to infer what Tim and Grandma Sue did with each item during their day together. They worked together and did such a great job!! Here are was the files looked like:
Case File 1:
Case File 2:
Case 3:
Case File 4:
Case File 5:
When everyone was done with their evidence, we met as a group to put the whole day together. Here’s the final verdict of how Tim and Grandma Sue spent their snow day together!
Way to go class! You solved the Snow Day Mystery!!
